Excel in Excel.xls

Excel is a part of the Microsoft Office Suite, which includes Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, and Business Manager. The Student and Teacher version does not include Access, Publisher, or Business Manager.
This month, David Rhyne, will present a program on using Excel. Excel is a spreadsheet program with many features. It will do many financial functions including charts and graphs. The following article shows a pie chart created by my wife using Excel.

Survey Results

You are not alone! Our recent survey showed that over half of our members consider themselves as either novice or intermediate. Almost a quarter are novices. The biggest group is intermediate at 32%.
A professional is someone who is advanced but gets paid for working with computers. Professionals and advanced make up 39% of our group.
The chart shows that we are a diverse group, fairly evenly divided in skill levels.
I plan to have a "Computer 101" article each month, starting with one this month on "Getting the Most from a Mouse."

Charles F. MizePresident's Notes

Thanks to everyone who replied to the
survey on computer skill level. I know
that it is sometimes difficult to decide exactly which category to choose. I often feel like a novice in certain areas but advanced in others.
The purpose of the survey is to plan programs and discussions that are helpful to all members. Sometimes I feel we go too fast, and other times we drift into tangents from the topic.

There are times when something of importance comes up, and we need paper and pens to record it. It is frustrating when you have no way of recording an URL or tip.
Starting in September CUGOL will provide a note pad and pen to record items of interest. You may keep any notes you make, but please leave the notepads for the next meeting.
Any suggestions for programs or discussion topics will be appreciated.
