Want More $$$
The
federal government, governors, and mayors are looking at the same source
of generally untapped tax revenue. On-line shopping has grown greatly
in the past years. You can find an almost unlimited selection of products
and low prices at on-line suppliers. Another perk, not advertised, is
that most people don't pay taxes on items bought through the internet.
A bill is expected to be introduced in the House by Rep. Bill Delahunt,
D-Mass., and in the Senate by Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo. Local merchants
are lobbying for the bill. This is a fluid matter; keep checking the
news for more information.
High
Speed Camera Card
My
first camera had a memory
card that held 32 MB of data. My current camera produces individual pictures
that are 7 MB in size. My old card would only have held 4 of those pictures.
The most popular card today, the SD, ranges in capacity up to 4 GB. Available
now is the SDHC card which starts at 4 GB and goes up to 32 GB. Coming on
now is the SDVC, which can hold up to 2 TB.
The SDHC is the equivalent of the high-definition TV compared to the regular
TV. The SDHC has better quality and is much faster than the SD.
WARNING: Not
all equipment can read the SDHC card. I bought one and discovered my old
card reader would not work with it. A newer reader worked fine.
Before you buy a SDHC card (a 4 GB cost me $20), be certain your equipment
can handle the new cards. Anything bought in the last couple of years
should be OK. Some older PC's with card slots may not recognize these
cards. If you take a lot of pictures and want top results and faster processing,
the SDHC may be for you.
Formatting: A new camera disk, or one transferred from an old camera,
should be formatted according to the camera instructions. This will make
sure the disk is clean and matches your new camera.

Notes
CUGOL
members range from novices to professionals. Question
and Answer sessions are popular,
and a great deal of information is exchanged. Sometimes there may be too
much to absorb and insufficient time to take notes.
There are topics that require a more thorough examination. If we plan
an organized program, like the recent one on Microsoft help sites, we
can cover many aspects of the topic. We could distribute handouts and
other study aids.
In the beginners class I teach, considerable time is spent on MS Word.
It is the ubiquitous program used by most businesses and writers.
A session on using Word could cover the basic principles which are common
to most word processors.
Please let me know if you want programs like that, and if so, which ones.
