What Happens Next Month?

On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed. CUGOL celebrates the occasion by having a party at our July meeting. The library will be closed on Saturday, July 4, so our meeting will be on Saturday, July 11, 2009,
One item on the June 6th meeting agenda will be planning our July party. As usual, the CUGOL budget will provide barbeque and buns. Members are invited to bring other items to complete our meal. There will be a sign-in sheet passed around for other items to make the party a success.

New Local On-line Newspaper

The Gaston-Lincoln Weekly made its appearance recently. It is just getting starting and is published by a man in the photography club.
I have already posted CUGOL's meeting date.
The Lincoln Tribune seems to have slipped in quality lately. I hope this new site fills a gap in local new and activities.

Tip for Shutterbugs

If you have ever watched a professional photographer at work, you probably noticed a white or silver screen about umbrella-size nearby. Those screens are to reflect light onto their subject or to provide a background.
The professional versions can be very expensive. I found a pair of sunscreens for a car windshield in my garage. I have both a white and a silver version. They fold up into dinner-plate size. Wal-Mart has them starting at $6.00. These provide a cheap substitute to the commercial screens.

Swap Shop

One member has suggested we have a swap shop for trading or swapping old computers and peripherals. We will try this at the June meeting. Let's limit it to PC's or Cameras (no crock pots.)

New Computer Shop

A new computer sales/repair shop opened recently in Boger City next to Charter Communications.

I don't have any information on this place now.

Charles F. Mize President's Notes

We had a program on using the basic feafff features of MS Word at our May meeting. There were a number of questions concerning the "table" functions of Word. We will devote a part of a future program to go more deeply into this topic.
Word's table will not replace Excel as a spread-sheet or Access as a database, but it does have some basic features of both. It does fill a need for a simple way of performing some of the needs of those two programs. Look for this program later. If someone wants to give a program on Excel, please let me know.
