Want $$$ From Online Sales
Attempts
by cash-strapped U.S. states to collect tax revenues from sales in cyberspace
were this week met by a defiant response from leading online retailers,
including Amazon.
Traditional retailers that run websites, such as Wal-Mart and Best Buy, already collect sales tax on their online shipments. But existing US law only requires retailers with a local presence in a state to collect the tax, because of the complexity of the state and local sales tax systems. Amazon this week responded to similar moves by legislators in North Carolina, Rhode Island, and Hawaii by ending its relationship with local affiliate sites to retain its exempt status. Keep your eyes open on this matter. You may soon find a charge for taxes as well as shipping charges on your Internet purchases. NC now requires that you pay taxes on your purchases but depends on the purchasers to include the amount on their tax return.
Don't Shake Your Camera The
best way to get a blurry picture is to shake the camera when you are
taking a picture. It doesn't take much shake to ruin a picture. A tripod
is helpful, but in certain conditions, just pushing the shutter button
will introduce a slight quiver in the camera.

We
had thirty-two members and two guests at our June meeting. Members are
urged to bring family and a good appetite for the July meeting to celebrate
our country's Independence with a meal.
Attending in June: Fred Bowman, Sue Brooks, Nancy Brotherton, Jack Buff, Dorothy Carsley, Reba Cordell, Jim Cox, Gale Dale, Rodney Eaker, Lisa Gambini, Gene Graska, Randy Henderson, James Hoyle, Bill Keever, Inge Klaus, Gerry Leonhardt, Allen Martin, Bernice McGee, Charles Mize, Libby Mize, Gloria Perkins, David Rhyne, Charles Rudisill, Christine Simmons, Rutha Simmons, Katherine Taylor, Bob Tull, Mike Vance, Sue Vance, Nancy Venable, Bob Wolfe, Pat Wolfe. Visitors: Jim Morrison, Mary Lou Williams.
(Don't forget the party on July 11. Good food - good friends - bring your luncheon goodies.) When
I saw that our usual meeting date and Independence Day coincided, I
wondered how often that occurred. It seems that since CUGOL was started
in 1985, July 4th was on a Saturday only four times (1987, 1992, 1998,
and 2009). I got this from the time and date website. |
