Where
to Recycle Almost Anything
You can take your old newspapers, plastics, or cans to convenience sites
in many counties, but they won't take car batteries, tires and other
items.
Computers and monitors contain hazardous materials as do small batteries;
they should be disposed of properly.
When you have an emergency, you dial 911.
Getting rid of such items can be solved by going to http://earth911.com/
on your computer.
Just enter the item and your zip code in the blocks, and you will be
directed to disposal sites. The web page also has a number of short
cuts to many common items.
It defaults to within 25 miles but can be extended. It will also provide
a map to the location suggested. Staples is listed as taking trade-ins
free or taking non-trade-in items for a $10.00 fee.
Goodwill and other charities also accept certain items.
The site can be a little flakey at times but generally it will give
you an answer to your disposal problems.

www.apple.com (For Apple Products)
www.officedepot.com (sells boxes for
recycling)
A
Warning about Recycling PCs
Your
old computer may have valuable data on its hard drive. You can find programs
for sale at most software dealers which remove personal data from a hard
drive. If your PC is completely dead, remove the HD before recycling.

New
Photography Club
A
new photography club held an
organizational meeting on January 26 at the library in Lincolnton. Three
of our CUGOL members attended.
It is set up much like CUGOL with a mixture of experienced photographers
and those wanting to learn more about using a camera. I discovered that
I need to learn a lot more about photography.
They plan to have "how-to" programs and do field trips to
local sites to practice their skills.
We decided to meet on the 4th Monday of each month starting at 7:00
PM at the library.
For more information about the club, call Judy at 980-241-0188.
