In The News

Digital is here - finally. By now, everyone who had an analog TV connected to an antenna has lost their television signal. The choice was to get cable, satellite, or a digital TV.
Cheaper than a new TV is a converter box between the TV and the antenna. Converter boxes are now selling for less than $50, just $10 if you have the government coupon. That's old news.
Don't junk that old set yet.
Here is where I eat my hat. I have said that a rabbit ears antenna won't work under the new digital system. It will, if you connect it through one of the converter boxes.
I have cable but find I can get a better picture on local stations and in high definition by using an antenna and the box.
Here is what surprised me. Walmart sells indoor antennas for around $40 and up. Big Lots sells a modern rabbit ears antenna for $3. A bigger one goes for $6. This means you can put that obsolete TV back into service for $13 ($10 for the box and $3 for the antenna. If it doesn't work, you can always use the antenna to dry your socks.

Windows 7 Is Coming Your Way

     Some people love Vista while
others hate it. To make Bill Gates a little richer, Microsoft is coming out with a new Operating System known as MS7

"Microsoft's big day draws ever closer, with the company saying Wednesday that it has put Windows 7 and a new version of its server operating system in the hands of computer makers. In Microsoft parlance, this is known as R.T.M., or release to manufacturing, and it is the last big step before Windows 7 actually reaches users in late October."

Charles F. MizePresident's Notes

CUGOL continues to grow. We have 53 memberships. It now takes two pages to print the member list. We can afford the extra paper. That number represents only the head of the household. Twenty-four members have a second person listed on their membership application. That's 77 people who are part of CUGOL. Many of those attend the meetings on a regular or occasional basis.
We are about evenly divided between male and female and have a wide range of ages.
We have plenty of room. Invite your friends.
